Asian soybean rust (ASR) caused by Phakopsora pachyrhizi was initially cited for the province of Entre Rios, Argentina, in April 2004. Until now, ASR was registered annually in a generalized way in the main soybean (Glycine max)-producing region of the country. The objective of this work was to carry out a characterization of ASR in different environments of the province of Entre Rios. Three experiments were carried out during the 2004-2005 and 2005-2006 growing seasons on sites near meteorological stations. The sampling size was determined using the SDS method, the plants were divided into three levels (upper, middle, and lower), and every week,. three central leaflets were collected from each level of the randomly selected plants. The incidence in percent (I) and the conditional density (Cd) (number of uredinia per leaflet) were associated with some meteorological variables (temperature, rainfall, and leaf wetness) and captures in a spore trap. With I and Cd, the disease progress curves were carried out for each environment. In all cases, the appearance of the disease was produced late (R6), the duration of epidemics was prolonged for 29-35 days, and the maximum quantity of I and Cd registered were 95.8 and 64.2, respectively. The best adjusted models to the curves were the logistic and the exponential ones. These constitute the first registers of temporal evaluation of ASR quantified for the province of Entre Rios. |
